This summer, we were thrilled to welcome a new face to The New Inn kitchen – our talented Chef SJ, who has already been making waves with his passion, creativity, and authentic flavours.

Originally from Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu in southern India – home of the magnificent Brihadishvara Temple (Google it, it’s truly impressive!) – SJ moved to the UK a few years ago to continue his culinary journey. His love for cooking started early, and like many great chefs, he owes much of his inspiration to family… and a little bit of romance!

“When I was 17, I had a girlfriend who wasn’t good at cooking,” laughs SJ. “So I decided to learn for myself – and went straight to the best teacher of all time, my mother.”

Since then, his skills have taken him far, developing a style that balances authentic Indian flavours with fresh local ingredients. His enthusiasm for quality, flavour and creativity has quickly made him a hit with both the team and our guests.

“Be willing to try new things,” says SJ, “because once you’ve tried it, you’ll love it!”

It’s not just about heat – it’s about harmony. “It’s not about the spices,” he explains, “it’s about the flavours all blended together.”
