A Toast to Summer: The Wight Whisky Terrace Opens at The New Inn

On Friday, 30th May 2025, we proudly hosted the official launch of our Wight Whisky Terrace for the summer season — and what a fantastic evening it was! With Isle of Wight’s very own DJ, producer, and radio presenter, Our Girl G, on the decks, the terrace came alive with laid-back tunes and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. It was the perfect setting to ease into summer.

Lucy Gregg’s Passion for Wight Whisky
Lucy Gregg, Co-Founder of Wight Whisky, shared her enthusiasm for this exciting local venture:
“Whisky is more than just a drink – it’s a product that encapsulates its landscape and the conditions surrounding it. The long, lingering sunshine days, salty sea air, and nutrient-rich soil on our island produce a barley like no other, enabling us to transform this simple, local ingredient into a seductively smooth, full-bodied whisky.
We are so proud to be working closely with fellow island businesses and to be part of our island’s history as the first-ever whisky brand born on the Isle of Wight. We’re very excited to introduce our island to the world of whisky.”

The Spirit of the Island
Wight Whisky is the Isle of Wight’s first independent whisky distillery, and it’s already turning heads with its mission to redefine English whisky. Every drop is a true taste of the island — crafted using 100% Isle of Wight-farmed barley and shaped by the island’s unique landscape, climate, and coastal air.
The distillery collaborates with Isle of Wight Grain, a non-profit organisation supporting local barley farmers. Their partnership is proudly marked with a seal of approval on every bottle. The whisky-making journey begins at Goddard’s Brewery, where the mash is brewed and fermented for over seven days. It’s then distilled at New Farm, the distillery’s rural HQ, nestled within the historic Nunwell Estate.
Even the water used is local — sourced and bottled by Wight Crystal from natural island springs and integral to the distilling and blending process.
In 2019, the Isle of Wight was awarded UNESCO Biosphere status, a testament to how the island’s community lives in harmony with its diverse natural environment. This rich biodiversity and deep connection to the land give Wight Whisky its truly distinctive character.
Sip & Savour: Island-Inspired Cocktails
Guests at the launch event indulged in two delightful Wight Whisky cocktails — perfect for a relaxed summer evening on the terrace.
Wight Mule (Signature Serve)
Fill a glass with ice.
Add a measure of the Signature Malt Blend.
Top with ginger ale and finish with a generous squeeze of lime and a lime wedge.
Crisp, citrusy, and easy to enjoy.
Wight Collins
Combine elderflower cordial, lemon juice, soda, and the Signature Malt Blend.
Light, floral, and refreshing — ideal for summer.
The Signature Malt Blend
The Signature Malt Blend is a full-strength whisky presented in an eco-friendly bottle designed with sustainability in mind. Made from recyclable glass, it features a compostable seal crafted from corn and potato starch, and biodegradable labels.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Vanilla, honey, cinnamon spice, and a gentle note of oak.
Palate: Floral tones, light oak, dried fruits like figs and dates, vanilla, and creamy toffee with a hint of smoke.
Finish: Light honeyed sweetness.
It’s a whisky that speaks of the land it comes from — smooth, complex, and unmistakably Wight. Take a look at www.wightwhisky.com.
